DIRECTOR DENNY TEDESCO, SON OF LEGENDARY GUITARIST TOMMY TEDESCO, WILL BE ON STAGE TO DISCUSS THE FILM WITH OLYMPIC STUDIOS PRODUCER CHRIS KIMSEY.
What the Funk Brothers did for Motown, The Wrecking Crew did, only bigger, for the West Coast Sound. Six years in a row in the 1960s and early 1970s, the Grammy for “Record of the Year” went to Wrecking Crew recordings. This riveting documentary tells the story in pictures and that oh, so glorious sound. The favourite songs of a generation are all here, presented by the people who made them for you.
The Wrecking Crew is a documentary film produced and directed by Denny Tedesco, son of legendary late Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco. The film tells the story of the unsung musicians that provided the backbeat, the bottom and the swinging melody that drove many of the number one hits of the 1960s: from Nat “King” Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, The Byrds or The Beach Boys, these dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “west coast sound” a dominant cultural force around the world.
The film is a fun and moving tribute from Denny to his father, to the times and the music, and to the secret star-making machine known only as The Wrecking Crew.
Denny Tedesco is a film-maker, broadcaster and producer. In addition to producing documentaries everywhere from the shark-infested waters of Australia to the plains of Africa, his film career began as a set decorator on features such as Eating Raoul before he began work on The Wrecking Crew. He regularly conducts interviews for A&E Biography, TV Land and Comedy Central and over the last 13 years he has produced promos, videos and commercials for various companies and networks. Most notably, in 2000, he produced the Academy Awards opening, staring Billy Crystal, and also the music video for Elton John’s I Want Love, starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
Chris Kimsey has produced and engineered some of the greatest records ever made. Having worked with, amongst many others, The Rolling Stones, INXS, Gipsy Kings, Marillion, The Chieftains, Deacon Blue, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Killing Joke, Psychedelic Furs, The Cult, Duran Duran, Johnny Hallyday, Yes, ELP, and Peter Frampton, Chris is known throughout the industry as a ’producers’ producer’ and we are delighted to have him on board here at Olympic Studios, the building in which he worked with legend after legend, as our Sound Ambassador.
